Iraq is the biggest of the three markets by a wide margin, its buyers are used to ordering online, and delivery is faster than in Libya. It is also the market where the fewest outside merchants have arrived. If you are choosing one country to start with on volume alone, this is it.
What makes Iraq different from Libya
- Scale. Several times the population, concentrated in dense cities. The same ad budget reaches far more people.
- Speed. Distances between major cities are shorter and delivery is correspondingly faster.
- Cash only at the door. Unlike Libya, card and bank transfer on delivery are not available here. Price your offers with that in mind.
- A more crowded local field. More local couriers operate here, which raises the bar on delivery rate rather than on price.
How delivery works across the governorates
Coverage runs to every governorate, with time driven by distance from the centre:
- Baghdad and surroundings — 1–2 days
- Central governorates — Babil, Karbala, Najaf, Anbar: 2–3 days
- Southern governorates — Basra, Dhi Qar, Maysan, Muthanna: 2–4 days
- Northern governorates — Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, Mosul: 3–4 days
Addresses in Iraq are as descriptive as in Libya. The confirmation call is where an address becomes routable.
The steps, in order
- Register and connect your store. A merchant account with no Iraqi company and no residency, connected via Shopify, WooCommerce, YouCan, Lightfunnels or Google Sheets. Around 48 hours to a live order.
- Get stock in. From the local catalogue with no upfront purchase, by sourcing a product in 24-48 hours at a 30-piece minimum, or by shipping your own goods.
- Price for a cash market. No card at the door in Iraq, so the full amount leaves the buyer's pocket at delivery. Test your ceiling deliberately rather than discovering it through returns.
- Shoot the ad honestly. The leading doorstep return cause is the product not matching the ad. Shoot the real product, show its scale, use no colour-shifting filters.
- Let confirmation work. Every order is called in Iraqi dialect before dispatch, and delivery is retried three times a day across three days before a return.
- Reconcile weekly. Cash collected against orders delivered, with the balance transferred at the end of each week.

Pricing for a cash-only market
Because there is no card option at the door, the entire order value has to be produced in cash by the buyer at the moment of delivery. That puts a practical ceiling on order value that does not exist in Libya.
Merchants respond by building bundles that raise average order value without crossing the point where a buyer refuses on sight. Test that ceiling deliberately rather than discovering it through returns.
